About Citroen Relay

Citroen

The Citroen Relay, with its bold headlights and grille, is certainly a van that stands out from the crowd. It shares its platform with the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato, but there’s no doubt it has the most distinctive design.

The panel van version comes in a choice of three heights and four lengths as well as chassis cab and crew cab versions to accommodate specialist bodywork such as dropsides and Lutons. The Relay is available in a choice of standard or Enterprise trim.

About Citroen Relay

2014 Facelift

The most recent facelift to the Relay in 2014 has seen changes to the brakes and doors to give greater durability and an improved engine range for better emissions and economy. All of the Relay’s engines are strong 2.2 litre diesel units ranging in power from 108bhp to 148 bhp. The e-Hdi 130 version includes stop-start technology for greater economy in city use, with fuel consumption of around 42 mpg.

Capacity is eight cubic metres in the smallest Relay models up to 17 in the largest, and payloads range from 1.1 to 1.9 tonnes. Note that some of the largest versions of the Relay are more than four tonnes, so drivers will have to have an HGV licence.

Load Area

The Relay has a wide load bay which can take a standard Euro pallets and wide-opening rear doors. There’s a wide side door as standard on the nearside too, with an offside one available as an extra. The Relay has a steel bulkhead dividing the cab from the load area and plenty of fixing points for securing loads. There’s a useful 12v power socket in the load area too. Optional pneumatic suspension at the rear means it can handle loads with ease.

The van is designed to be practical and robust, with a multi-piece front bumper and wide rubbing strips down the sides to guard against knocks. Big door mirrors and high-mounted lights front and rear ensure the driver can see and be seen.

Safety

Safety features on the Relay include hill-start assist, stability control, emergency braking and ABS, plus a drivers airbag. These all come as standard. The larger versions are also equipped with a lane-departure warning system - this is also optional on the smaller vans. The latest Relays boast improved brakes, which also contribute to greater safety.

The cab offers three comfortable seats as standard, with a pull-down table in the centre, and has lots of storage spaces, including an overhead area and a lockable glovebox. Selective central locking lets the cab and load area be locked separately, and there’s deadlocking as standard. Enterprise models come with an alarm and cruise control as standard.

The Relay gives the driver a good view of the road, and there is light steering and a logical control layout, including a dash-mounted gear change and audio controls on the steering wheel. Optional driver aids include a touchscreen display, a reversing camera and parking sensors. The Relay can also be specified with intelligent traction control and hill-descent control to allow it to cope with all weather and road conditions.
