About Fiat Doblo Cargo

Fiat

The van comes in a range of configurations and engine sizes, with several diesel engines and a petrol version for urban deliveries. The standard van has either one or two sliding side doors with an opening height of 1175mm, two rear-door options and - good news if you have to load heavy items - a load threshold only 545mm from the ground.

As mentioned, there are lots of different options and configurations, so let’s start with the Standard van. It can carry loads up to 1820mm long and from 1518mm to 1714mm wide. Height in the load compartment is 1305mm, giving a total volume of 3.4 cubic metres - excellent for such a compact package. In terms of weight, it can carry 750kg in the standard version and up to 1005kg in some of the larger versions.

The Maxi is 350mm longer, giving a load length of 2170mm. Although the width and height are the same as for the standard van, it delivers 4.2 cubic metres of load space.

If you need more height, you need to go for the High Roof van, which comes in at 1550mm high, compared to the 1305mm in the standard and maxi versions. The High Roof van has the same load compartment length and width as the standard model and comes in at a total load volume of 4 cubic metres - bigger than the standard but a little under the maxi.

If you like the Doblo but want both more load space, look at the XL, which is like a sized-up version, combining the height of the High Roof van and the longer wheelbase and load length of the Maxi. This results in a useful 5 cubic metres of load space, and of course a higher payload - 1005kg compared to 750kg in the Standard.

You can tell the Doblò WorkUp has been built by an Italian company - Fiat describes it as being able to carry 33 crates of fruit. To be fair, they do also mention that this pickup has a surface area of 4 square metres - 2.3m long, 1.82m wide - which means you can get up to three Euro pallets in. There are securing hooks which will hold up to 300kg safely and a handy two-metre-long lockable storage compartment under the load bed - useful for storing tools securely. There’s a side access step for easy access to the body.

Businesses these days have incredibly diverse transport needs. Fiat have done their best to meet these needs with the flexible Chassis cab with load platform. It’s basically a body shell which can take all types of vehicle body. It's well worth considering if you have the type of business that means you will have to convert an off-the-shelf van anyway.

Doblo Engines

There’s a good choice of engine types and sizes. The 1.3 diesel has 90 HP and is rated Euro 5+. It offers low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of 133 g/km. The 1.6 diesel comes in two models - a Euro 5 with 90hp and a Euro 5+ with 105hp. The largest engine in the range is the 2.0 Diesel, a Euro 5+ rated engine with 135hp. For a powerful engine, CO2 emissions at 154 g/km aren’t too bad. There’s also a 1.4 petrol model for the urban driver. It has95hp and a Euro 6 rating.

Driver comfort has clearly been a guiding force in the design. The cab has acoustic muffling to cut noise so the driver can chill out while listening to the Bluetooth radio, built-in MP3 player and hands-free phone. There are also AUX-USB inputs.

The Doblo’s got all the best safety features - ABS brakes, with gradual braking where needed, Electronic Stability Control, help with hill starts, Traction + for difficult conditions, air bags, head rests, and tyre sensors.

All in all, a great new van from Fiat.
