National Rollout of Fiat Fullback Expected

Fiat is gearing up to offer the Fullback pickup truck from every one of its dealerships across the UK rather than limiting it to just its outlets that are aimed at commercial vehicle buyers.

This is according to an interview given by spokesperson Richard Chamberlain, who told Business Vans that its potential to appeal to a wide audience was the main motivation behind this planned rollout.

The Fullback is built on the same platform as the Mitsubishi L200 and is just one of a number of emerging mid-tier pickup trucks which are designed to combine the ride quality and usability of a car with the practicality and ruggedness of an LCV.

Pickups have gradually been gaining momentum in the UK and across Europe, with sales ballooning over the past 24 months as buyers rush to secure their own truck. This trend has been met with an inversely mirrored decline in the sale of traditional SUVs to commercial buyers, in spite of the fact that they remain popular in the mainstream marketplace.

Fullback Expected to be Rolled Out Nationwide

Chamberlain said that the demand for pickups was growing amongst commercial and domestic buyers, meaning that there was even more competition amongst the major manufacturers. By making the Fullback available nationally, Fiat will be able to boost the visibility of its flagship model and ideally gain a healthy slice of this emerging segment.

Of course, the planned rollout requires time to take effect, and it will be several months until national coverage has been achieved. But it will mean that eventually it will be possible to experience all that the Fullback has to offer in every part of the country.

Furthermore, this will mean that anyone who chooses to buy a used Fiat Fullback further down the line can expect good support and parts availability even if they are not based in close proximity to one of the firm’s commercial outlets.

This pickup has a one-tonne payload capacity and a fairly spacious cargo bed which measures a little over 1.5 metres long and the 1.47 metres wide.

Under the bonnet is a 2.4 litre diesel engine that can be chosen with either 150hp or 180hp, depending on requirements. Towing capacity tops out at 3.1 tonnes, and both manual and automatic gearboxes are available for the range.

Every engine is Euro 6 compliant thanks to cutting-edge technologies, making them clean and efficient. And since the platform underpinning the Fullback comes from the aforementioned tried and tested Mitsubishi pickup, its off-road credentials are excellent.

Further Models Hitting the Market

More pickup models are set to hit the market later this year, with Mercedes-Benz posing a big threat to incumbents with its first truck aimed at the European market. Meanwhile, Fiat will be hoping to establish the Fullback alongside rivals like the VW Amarok and Renault Alaskan.

Pitching the Fullback as both an LCV and a recreational vehicle will give it market presence and improve its brand status, making it a very familiar sight on the roads all over the UK.
