About Fiat Punto

Fiat

Fiat called the van the Punt originally, then started adding Evo and Grande Punto to the name.  Goiing full circle back in 2012 the company reverted back to simply Punto.

Punto Practicality

With the rear row of seats stripped out, the load volume of the Punto van rises to a full cubic metre, giving it a slight edge over the equivalent Vauxhall Corsa van and allowing it to go head to head with the Ford Fiesta van.

This is still very much a hatchback vehicle, with metal panels sitting in the place usually occupied by the rear windows. And so the boot will be the main point of access to the load space.

Payloads of up to 530kg can be stowed in the rear of the Punto, with the presence of a full-height bulkhead helping to keep even larger items of cargo in one place and out of the way of the driver and passenger up front.

Punto

Punto Performance

Three Multijet diesel engines and a TwinAir petrol engine are available on the latest Punto van range, with outputs ranging from 75bhp on the base model to 95bhp on the most powerful of the bunch. In combination with up to 200Nm of torque, these small vans rarely feel under-powered and can cope with local client visits and deliveries as well as longer motorway journeys.

If driven carefully, Fiat claims that drivers will be able to get just over 80 miles to the gallon from a diesel-engined Punto van, although when fully laden with goods or equipment this figure is likely to be lower in real-world use.

Running costs are reduced thanks to the long 21,000-mile servicing intervals that are present on all Punto van models, which is a testament to the reliable reputation for good build quality which Fiat has managed to gain in recent years.

Punto Features

Inside the spacious cab the Punto feels much larger and more comfortable than might be expected of a small hatchback. Power steering with an extra-sensitive setting allows for optimal manoeuvrability when dealing with low-speed movement in narrow areas, while the wheel itself can be adjusted to the driver’s preferred position with ease.

Electric windows and mirrors, along with remote central locking, are included as standard on all models. Electronic stability control is also a universal feature, along with airbags for both the driver and passenger.

Prior to the introduction of the modern Punto van, the last generation of the Grande Punto was the standard small commercial vehicle offered by Fiat. And so on the used market you will need to look carefully at the models which are available in order to establish the features and specifications of each you prefer. But whichever Punto you pick, there is no doubting the innate stylishness of this range in what might otherwise be seen as a drab part of the market.
