About Ford

Ford

Ford sells more vans in the UK than any other manufacturer, continuing to make its mark on an industry that it helped to create. Ford has topped the UK van sales chart every year for over half a century, selling more than twice as many vans as their nearest competitor.  Everyone will be familiar with the Transit range, but recently the brand has expanded to cover a whole series of vans - small and large.  In addition, Ford make Ranger pick ups - with the Fiesta van, the only Ford commercial vehicles not to wear the Transit badge.

What makes Ford’s vans special is not just that they look good, are fun to drive and come with impressive amounts of equipment as standard. It is a combination of all these elements and more, meaning that used models are widely available and quick to sell.

The Ford Commercial Vehicles Model Range - An Overview

Ford Transit Van

The Transit Van is the prototypical commercial vehicle, offering an excellent load space, well-equipped cab and a range of efficient turbo-diesel engines which on the latest generation even come with stop-start technology to further reduce fuel consumption.

Single- and double-cab variants are available, along with the chassis cab Transit Van that can be converted to accommodate a range of bodies. Add in features like parking sensors, a reversing camera and adaptive cruise control, and the Transit is a van that can be less stressful to drive than most of its rivals. After the launch of the Transit Custom in 2012, 'Transit' on its own now simply describes the largest model in the 'Transit' range - before this, the Transit covered the range from 2.6 to 4 tonnes GVW.

Ford Transit Custom

A brand new van revealed alongside the current Connect by Ford in 2012.  The Transit Custom saw depart from serving the medium and large van segments with one van and follow the approach used by Volkswagen with the Transporter/Crafter and Mercedes-Benz with the Sprinter/Vito.  Fantastic looks, five star safety rating plus a host of driver assist technology pushed the van to the top of the table for desirability immediately from launch in the UK.

With a five-star Euro NCAP rating, the mid-sized Transit Custom keeps occupants well protected in the event of an accident. And with a host of ECOnetic technology under the bonnet, it is also cheaper to run than plenty of its competitors.

Payloads of between 643kg and 1507kg can be managed by the different models in this range, while access to the spacious load area is simple thanks to the sliding doors on the side and hinged doors at the rear.

Ford Transit Connect

With short- and long-wheelbase versions on offer, the Transit Connect is a capable and versatile van that can take on the transportation needs of small businesses and sole traders alike. Low-speed collisions can be avoided thanks to the Active City Stop system available on board the latest models, while versions of all ages are built to be resilient in the face of regular use.

With a maximum payload capacity of a tonne, big jobs are not a problem for this van. And since it can also achieve over 70 miles to the gallon thanks to Ford’s impeccably efficient engine technology, it will be able to offer minimal running costs.

Ford Transit Courier

Many small vans claim to be as manoeuvrable and comfortable as a car, but the Transit Courier is one of the few that actually lives up to the hype. It offers 10 per cent more load volume than its closest rivals while featuring a range of petrol engines, including a 1.0 litre EcoBoost unit that is surprisingly lively for such a small set-up.

Low emissions and fuel consumption make the Transit Courier a welcome addition to any fleet, while engine stop-start technology and the latest in-cab connectivity ensure it is competitive with its contemporaries.

Ford Fiesta Van

For urban driving there are few commercial vehicles which can match the Fiesta Van when it comes to convenience. Highly manoeuvrable and kitted out with Ford’s latest hardware under the skin, it is a beautifully designed van inside and out.

The space in the rear has a volume of one cubic metre and is hard wearing enough to accommodate loads of all kinds without succumbing to wear and tear.

Ford Transit Minibus

The Transit platform makes an excellent transition into minibus territory with this model, combining both petrol and diesel engine options across the range and ensuring that on the inside it has as much kit and comfort as a car. Electronic stability control (ECS) keeps track of the vehicle’s progress and can help in the event of skids and other emergencies to keep it in check. Lane-departure warning capabilities are also available on the latest generation of this minibus, giving drivers and their passengers enhanced safety levels.

Verdict

Ford vans are hard to beat - their dealer network is extensive with many specialist 'Transit Centres' joinining the network offering extended opening hours and specialist salespeople who can help with van conversions and body building. All Transits are now manufactured abroad (mainly in Turkey) but they still remain close to the heart of the British van driver.
