Full 2017 D-Max Specifications Announced by Isuzu

The Isuzu D-Max Pickup

The Isuzu D-Max Pickup

With pickup sales continuing to soar, manufacturers like Isuzu which have always had a stake in this market segment are facing increased pressure from a wider array of rivals. So the new D-Max is this Japanese brand’s most important commercial vehicle to arrive for quite some time.

Isuzu recently confirmed the full array of D-Max variants that will be made available in the UK this year, along with the price points that each will occupy, according to Commercial Fleet.

The D-Max Range

The most affordable D-Max is the Utility, which may be cheaper than its siblings but still packs in plenty of modern features, including hill-start and descent control capabilities. There is even Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling, as well as electric windows and that all-important air con to keep the summer heat at bay on busy work sites.

For just under £20,500 the D-Max Eiger is the first pickup in the range which features a double-cab set-up to accommodate driver and passengers in car-like levels of comfort. It also has a few more toys than the Utility, coming with a CD player, alloy wheels, colour-coded bumpers and even a camera mounted at the rear to make reversing and manoeuvring easier.

The Yukon is comparable with the Eiger in terms of cost but focuses more on luxury and road-going capabilities rather than practically oriented features. As a result, it comes with a touchscreen infotainment system, bigger alloy rims and cruise control so that motorway journeys are less fatiguing for the person behind the wheel.

For almost £3500 on top of the asking price of the Eiger and Yukon, buyers can opt for the D-Max Utah. This has features such as keyless entry, a sat nav, leather seats and an advanced infotainment system which is compatible with modern mobiles so that it can access smartphone-like services on the fly.

At a fraction under £27,000 before VAT, the D-Max Blade sits at the pinnacle of the new range, boosting the size of the infotainment system’s display and adding things like parking sensors, tinted windows and its own exclusive aesthetic touches to the mix.

Efficient and Eco-Friendly

The good news about all D-Max models is that they are based around the same underlying 1.9 litre diesel engine. This can tow loads weighing up to 3.5 tonnes and cope with a tonne of equipment or material in the load bed as well, making it very useful in all types of conditions.

This power plant is also eminently efficient, achieving 45.6 miles to the gallon when driven optimally and also developing fewer harmful emissions than its predecessors. It is Euro 6 compliant, showing that it can pass when put to the test by regulators.

The four-wheel-drive system can be engaged at will, meaning drivers can pick whatever set-up is appropriate for the terrain they face. And as a hard-working commercial pickup which still feels fun to drive and can stand in for a car, the new D-Max could be a compelling contender in this tough segment of the market.
