The Isuzu D-Max Pickup

The latest iteration of the popular D-Max pickup from Isuzu is winging its way to the UK in the coming weeks, with pre-orders now being accepted for what should be an affordable entry in this growing segment of the LCV marketplace.

Perhaps the most important change to come along with the updated D-Max is the engine, which is an entirely re-engineered turbo diesel unit built by Isuzu itself. It develops a healthy 162bhp and puts out 360Nm of torque, according to Auto Express.

While last-generation D-Max model was powered by a 2.5 litre engine, there is a 1.9 litre featured in the successor. And while a reduction in its size has meant that it has slightly less pulling power, this is more than made up for in the fact that it is cleaner and more efficient than ever.

The Specification

With Euro 6 compliance achieved, this pickup produces lower volumes of harmful emissions than its predecessors. It can also cope with payloads of up to a tonne while being able to tow trailers of up to 3.5 tonnes in weight, matching most other LCVs of this class.

Although fuel efficiency figures have not yet been released, it is expected that the new D-Max will be cheaper to run while also offering a smooth and car-like driving experience and excellent off-road credentials. The face-lifted exterior is sleek and modern, with chrome detailing on the grille and new alloy wheels giving it a premium look in spite of its expectedly low price tag.

On the inside there have been some major changes to the dash layout, with the addition of an eight-inch touchscreen display in the centre giving drivers access to a whole host of infotainment capabilities. It should be easy to synchronise this system with modern smartphones for the purposes of hands-free calling and media playback.

Buyers will be able to specify a range of trim options, including leather upholstery for a high-end feel that is sure to impress anyone who climbs aboard.

The outgoing D-Max range sold in the UK from just under £15,000, and it is thought that its replacement will be marginally more expensive upon release, if only to account for the weakening value of the pound.

Warranty Packages Available

Isuzu offers extremely competitive warranty packages, with all models getting five years' cover included as standard. If the pickup covers 125,000 miles before this period has passed, the warranty will also come to an end.

The long warranty period and the unwavering reliability of all Isuzu models will be good news for anyone looking to buy used D-Max pickup trucks, since even older generations can still become effective workhorses after many years of use.

2017 is likely to be another year of strong growth in pickup truck sales in the UK, with new models from a variety of manufacturers such as VW, Renault and Mercedes-Benz all set to compete. Isuzu’s cost-conscious D-Max range could be well positioned to secure a big slice of this quickly expanding domestic marketplace.
