About Renault Kangoo

Renault

Details

First rolling off the production line in 1997, the Kangoo is a mid-size multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) manufactured by French car-makers Renault. The original 1997 release came with a variety of engine choices, from 1.2l to 1.9d. Since then, the product line has seen regular refreshment, including a 4x4 version initially released in 2001. The big step forward came in 2008 with the Phase II Kangoo model, offering 110HP, 0-60mph in 13 seconds and a maximum speed of 105mph with its 1.6l 16v engine.

A selection of Kangoo variants are produced for the UK market. Buyers can also choose from standard and Maxi body lengths, the latter of which can be fitted with an additional second row of folding seats to create a five-seater crew van. Both standard and Maxi models can be fitted with front passenger seats that fold flat for extra versatility, expanding the storage and load-carrying areas to make the most of the van’s dimensions.

The Kangoo Maxi Van is designed for carrying large loads, with up to 4.6m3 of space provided in its rear compartment. When the passenger seat is folded down, maximum load length extends to 2886mm, deliberately allowing two standard-size pallets to be loaded with ease.

The Kangoo Maxi Crew Van comes with an additional second row of seating, providing five seats in total. Nonetheless, it keeps a sufficient load volume of 2.4m3, rising to 3.6m3 if the rear seating is folded down. As a result of the design change, the payload drops to 740kg in this configuration, with a maximum load length of 1008mm.

The dashboard can be fitted with the R-LINK Multimedia System, featuring USB sockets and an audio jack alongside a large touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity for simplicity and ease of use. The R-LINK system also includes telephone functionality, automatically integrating with the contact details on your phone. Driver comfort is maximised with additional extras, including climate control, cruise control and adjustable steering wheel alignment.

The current iteration of the van includes hill-start assist to keep the vehicle stationary on an incline while starting the engine. Alongside this feature are electronic stability control and Grip Xtend as standard. Both the standard and Maxi models can be fitted with a full-height multi-position swivelling bulkhead, extending the load space further while still providing adequate protection to the driver.

2013 Model Renault Kangoo

The Renault Kangoo has sold millions of units since 1997 and remains the best-selling model in its class across the continent. The 2008 model range was expanded in 2010 to include the Maxi and the combi/crew van option. In 2013, the range received a further facelift, with a new option to have three seats at the front regardless of whether the chassis is the Express, Compact or Maxi in a move to meet the needs of business customers. Internal changes include revised door panels to enhance passenger comfort and a modified dashboard and new front bumper designed to improve quality.

The new Kangoo Van range features a broad array of petrol and diesel engines, including the ENERGY TCe 115HP and the dCi 75 and 90. These engines are at the top of their classes in terms of fuel efficiency thanks to the stop-start system, which allows for deceleration energy recovery. The Kangoo Z.E. runs on electricity, featuring a specialised front bumper which includes the battery charger concealed behind a flap.
