Launched in 2010, the Vauxhall Movano is based on the same platform as the Renault Master van and is designed as a vehicle to take on the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter. As such, it comes in a number of different variations, including front- or rear-wheel drive, three different roof heights and four body lengths, with a gross weight of up to 4,500kg. There are also double-cab versions, combis, chassis/cab versions and even a 17-seater minibus available as factory options.

Both front- and rear-drive versions use Vauxhall’s 2.3 diesel engine in varying states of tuning, from the 108bhp basic turbo diesel version up to a 161bhp twin turbo version. All of the Movano’s engines are chain cam, so there’s no need to worry about belt changes, and a 100,000-mile warranty plus 25,000-mile oil change intervals promise low maintenance and a long life. Most Movanos come with a six-speed manual gearbox, but a six-speed automatic can be had on some versions too. The Movano is available with ecoFLEX fuel-saving technology which includes automated stop/start. This is standard on bi-turbo models and optional on others.
Van versions have half-height protection in the load area as standard, with the option of full-height ply lining. Anti-slip floor covering with fixing rails and anchor points can be specified to keep loads in place. All versions have a full-height bulkhead to separate the load area from the cab. Double-cab versions provide seating for up to seven people and still retain a secure load area. Rear doors can be swung wide for easy loading and unloading, and the sliding side door is wide enough to allow a standard Euro pallet to be loaded from the side. For those needing to handle heavy loads, twin rear wheels and air suspension can be had as options.
Movano Combis can be specified with a second and third rows of seats which are removable for when greater load space might be needed. Chassis/cab versions are offered too, allowing the Movano to be turned into a dropside, tipper or Luton van.
For the driver the Movano offers a comfortable cab which is constructed from high-quality materials. A good range of adjustment in the seat and steering means a comfortable driving position with a clear view of the road, and there’s plenty of storage space around the cab for odds and ends. Creature comforts include electric windows, remote central locking, Bluetooth and aux connectivity along with audio controls on the steering wheel. Air conditioning and cruise control are available as options.
Vauxhall offers option packs for specific uses - for example, there’s a Construction Pack for heavy-duty work which has a locking differential, tow bar and air-suspended driver’s seat. A Comfort Pack has built-in satnav, climate control and audio enhancements.
Rear-drive Movanos come with ESP-Plus stability control as standard. This can be had as an option on front-drive models too. Other safety features include wide-angle mirrors and a driver’s airbag as standard and the option of reverse parking sensors and a speed limiter.
