Transit Capabilities

A van is only as good as the practical capabilities it offers commercial drivers. And with the latest Transit there is lots to like, including a load volume of up to 15.2 cubic metres, providing room for items of up to 4.2 metres in length.

Trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes can be towed, and Ford has integrated features which make long distances easier to cover, such as adaptive cruise control for automatic acceleration and deceleration on motorway trips.

The standard van iteration of the Transit is accompanied by a double-cab model as well as a chassis cab and a minibus. Medium, long and extended wheelbases appear alongside standard and high-roof versions, giving lots of configuration options.

Transit Technologies

Although the modern Transit is capable of carrying out tasks that its predecessors have handled for decades, it is also packed with modern technology to make it easier to drive and safer for all road users.

Under the bonnet there can be a number of 2.2 litre TDCi engines, with up to 155PS and 385Nm of torque on offer. And in combination with Ford’s efficient ECOnetic systems, every ounce of fuel is consumed as optimally as possible.

Regenerative charging keeps the battery topped up without sapping the van’s resources, while auto start-stop capabilities prevent the engine from burning diesel when the Transit is stationary, eliminating long idle times during congestion.

There is even dedicated Acceleration Control, which allows for automatic adjustments to the rate of acceleration depending on the weight of the load that is being carried. This is not only beneficial in terms of efficiency, but means that less strain is put on the components of the van, lowering maintenance costs over time and extending the lifespan.

Transit Convenience

Safety and security are both enhanced thanks to the cutting-edge design of the current Transit range, with various automatic driver alerts delivered for things like lane departure and even when the van detects tiredness in the person behind the wheel.

Hill-start assist, electronic stability control and emergency braking assist are just a few of the convenient systems that are available on Ford’s most popular van. And buyers can add curtain and side airbags as well as benefit from traction control, which keeps wheel spin to a minimum and boosts grip.

Optional extras, including a perimeter alarm and interior sensors, will improve the levels of protection which are available when the van is unattended. The doors on all models lock when the van is in motion, while automatic unlocking will occur automatically in the event of a serious crash to aid rescue efforts.

Ford has kept the Transit range ahead of the pack for many years, meaning even used models come with a wide selection of features and functionalities.
